Whatever Happens

September 24, 2025

One of life’s best lessons to anyone is that success is not a straight road. Literally, the patriarchs of our Christian faith all had their moments of loneliness, tempest and violent storms as they journeyed to become their best. In your career, your business, your ministry, and your personal life, you will inevitably face obstacles that seem insurmountable and opposition that feels personal and crushing. In these moments, the difference between those who are broken and those who are forged is not talent or luck, it is resilience and grit.

Resilience is the ability to bounce back from adversity. Grit is the perseverance toward long-term goals. Together, they form an inner fortitude that allows you to not take the word “no” as the final answer, learn from the sting of “failure,” and march forward with unwavering conviction. When you can have resilience and grit, you say to yourself, “Whatever happens, I will adapt, learn, and continue.”

The first and most crucial step to display resilience and grit is a shift in perception. Realise that the obstacle in front of you is not a stop sign; it is a path of your growth. Where others see a dead end, you must train yourself to see a detour sign or a climbing wall. As an entrepreneur, a failed product is not an end; it is market research. It is invaluable data on what your customers truly want. This obstacle becomes the strategy session for your next, more successful comeback.

Whatever happens, choose to see it as a necessary part of your story, not the end of it.

Learn to accept the situation for what it is. This is not about surrender. It is accepting the current reality. Fighting against the fact that it happened is wasting energy. Now, you should ask “What can I do with it?”

Acceptance is the solid ground from which you can begin afresh. You cannot change a situation you refuse to acknowledge. By accepting the reality of the obstacle, you reclaim your power to respond effectively.

Whatever happens, accept the reality, so you can focus your energy on what you can make out of it.

Each time I find myself anxious, the first thing that comes to my mind is to ask, “What am I really anxious about?” Worry and anxiety explodes when we focus on things outside our control. Focusing on the economy, another person’s actions, someone else’s opinion or past mistakes usually ends without any real solution. Grit is built by unfeigned focus on what you can control.

Let your next action be on what you can control. By taking one small, deliberate step within your control, you create a beginning of something new, perhaps a chain reaction of solution. This action builds confidence, and that confidence builds a continuous positive reaction.

Whatever happens, channel your energy into the one thing you can influence and make your next move on something within your control.

Always remember that no one succeeds alone. Resilience is not a solo mission. Grit is often found in the encouragement of a trusted friend, the wisdom of a mentor, or the shared burden of a team. Cultivate a network of mentors and peers who offer honest feedback and encouragement.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness; it is a strategy of strength. It means you are smart enough to know you don’t have all the answers and resilient enough to seek them out.

Whatever happens, you do not have to face it alone. Have a support system that becomes your fortress.

Obstacles are not there to break you; they are there to build you. They are the fire that forges the steel of your character, the pressure that creates the diamond of your resolve. The path of least resistance does not make strong men.

So, when the challenge comes, and it will, remember that you have the power to change your perspective on it, accept it, focus on controlling what you can and lean on the strength of those who support you.

Whatever happens, let it be known that you adapted, you learned, you persevered and you succeeded.
