Steal Leverage

September 24, 2025

Many times we are told to forge our own path, create something from nothing, and never copy. But what if the most brilliant innovators throughout history were not pure originals? What if their genius lay in their ability to recognize a great thing, adapt it, and make it their own?

This is not about losing your identity. It is about leverage; the intelligent art of using existing resources and wisdom to accelerate your own growth. In my latest book, The Rule of Repetition, I wrote that the blueprint for success in life, career, business, and ministry is already out there, waiting in the habits of truly successful people and structures of thriving organizations.

If you desire to steal from successful people, here are the best factors you should look out for to “steal” and build your own legacy.

Make the effort to discover the habits behind the outcome. The habit is the fundamental system that produces the successful outcome. Inquire how a highly productive person structures their day. What project and personnel management framework does a successful company use to remain effective? How does a growing ministry efficiently manage its community?

Success is rarely a random event; it is the predictable outcome of a reliable, often invisible system. It is the system that makes the difference. You might have the same 24 hours as everyone else, but a stolen system ensures you use them with maximum intention. You are not copying busywork or mere activities; you are adopting a proven engine that will make you more efficient.

Take a closer look at the mindset of successful people that you admire and draw viable lessons from them. How does a successful entrepreneur view failure? What is the core belief that drives a respected leader? From what perspective does a resilient person view challenges?

Before you can achieve what others have, you must first learn to think as they do. Mindset is the greatest asset of anyone, it is like the software that runs the hardware of their actions. When faced with a setback, ask, “How would my mentor view this?” Steal their perspective of seeing problems as opportunities.

How does a well-connected person build a network and add value to others? How does a great organization build a loyal community? How do successful people nurture their relationships?

But it is not about collecting business contacts; it is about the principles behind building genuine, mutually beneficial relationships. Steal the method for building a great network.

Successful people are great at learning.

The top 1% are not resting on their laurels. They are learning machines. Their commitment to constant improvement is a major factor that separates them from the pack. This is a habit that, once stolen, compounds over a lifetime.

Create a “learning curriculum” for yourself based on the habits of experts. Dedicate ample time each day to reading, listening to educational podcasts, or taking an online course. Make investing in your mind a non-negotiable part of your routine.

Strive to be excellent. Your success is capped by your standards. If you tolerate mediocrity, you will achieve mediocrity. By stealing a higher standard, you force yourself to level up your output, your service, and your performance. You raise the bar for yourself.

Leverage is the force that multiplies success for the wise. It is not cheating; it is being resourceful. It is standing on the shoulders of giants to see a little further.

So, become an observer. Be a student. Identify the people and organizations you admire and deconstruct their success. Steal their systems, their mindset, their networking principles, their learning habits, and their high standards.

Remember, you have to steal the principle, not the action. Adapt it, refine it, and pour your unique passion and personality into it. That’s how you turn stolen leverage into authentic, monumental success.
