A mentor looked at me years ago and told me, “Don’t be a motivational speaker. Build a sustainable life with whatever you are doing.” Our efforts are what helps us build a life for now, and in the future. Our focus today is on both individual and collective efforts that we can make to build a sustainable future for ourselves.
Here are some key points to consider:
Pursue education and awareness. The importance of knowledge and its impact on our actions cannot be over emphasized. Knowledge is the first step toward meaningful change, and it is also the fulcrum that holds whatever you do together.
Take personal responsibility. Building a life that will sustain you requires responsibility. Daily responsibility is needed. Responsibility is not a one off requirement for a sustainable business or life; responsibility is a continuous and developing process.
Focus on engaging a community of people. The importance of working together with people comes with the simple math theory of compounding effect. People will help you in all facets; learn to leverage on what others have so you can win together.
Use innovation and Technology. Explore how technology and innovation can contribute to make whatever you are doing sustainable. Advancements in technology can play a crucial role to keep your work or business sustainable.
Have a long-term vision. The need for a long-term vision is the foundation for sustainability efforts. Set goals and track progress to ensure that the actions taken lead to meaningful and lasting change.
