BREATHE AGAIN
Welcome to Episode 172.
Our discourse today is titled, BREATHE AGAIN.
In our pursuit of success and prosperity, life sometimes presents detours to our path. We can experience what we have invested so much in going up in flames: a business venture can falter, a career path can crumble, a personal dream can shatter. These setbacks can leave us out of breath and in the dust of disappointment. In desperation or defiance, our instinct in times like this might be to rush forward and move ahead blindly. But to truly rise up from the ashes of a fall or failure to enduring success in both life and business, something profound is demanded of us. We must have the courage to begin again intelligently.
The devastating effect of a fall is for you to faint and lose breath. But your first conscious breath after the fall is crucial as it doesn’t spell weakness; it is the foundation of intelligent restart. It’s the pause where clarity begins to seep back in. It is the moment where you begin to replace panic with possibility. It is the time you assess your pain to make way for proactive strategy to forge ahead. This is where you learn how to harness what’s left, ‘breathe again’ and rebuild intelligently.
Acknowledge the sting that led to the downward spiral. People remain down when they fall because they become preoccupied with maintaining a good balance in the eyes of others, upon landing. They make the effort to suppress pain or shame, and this only delays rising back up to heal. Allow yourself space to feel the disappointment, frustration, or even anger. This isn’t wallowing; it’s emotional honesty.
Be brutally honest with yourself as you initiate reflection. Relive what truly happened. Recount the factors that were within your control. Analyze the lessons that are embedded in all of it. Avoid blame games, both self-directed and outward. Focus on understanding the mechanics of the setback.
Remember your vision of success. A setback to the vision now is only a chapter and not the entire book. The setback is data provided for your destiny tale. It is not where the story ends. Challenge the catastrophe and consciously reframe the narrative to move on. Think of lessons learnt, instead of staying lost in thoughts. There is a vast difference between saying “I learned this lesson” and “I lost everything.” This experience is a necessary detour, a way to force you to upgrade or update your life for what you will achieve ahead. Reframing the narrative is a way to empower and transform you to keep fighting for what you believe in.
Don’t hold yourself down by seeking to rise up in a grand fashion. Resist the urge for a dramatic comeback. Starting intelligently is done by being meticulous. Craft a phased plan. Embrace micro-focus. Ask yourself, “What is the smallest, most achievable step you can take today? Then do the same for tomorrow. Break the monumental task of success into small actions.
If you have failed in business, you can embrace micro-focus by validating a new idea with potential customers before building a full product. In life, it might mean committing to one ritual or habit before overhauling your entire routine. I have learnt that such this precision builds momentum and prevents overwhelm.
In our next episode, we will take more steps on how to harness what’s left after a fall and use them to rebuild again intelligently.
