Imagine a man who was born blind and had lived thirty-eight years with the handicap. Then by the stroke of fate, he got healed and his sight was restored. But he still had to deal with yet another problem: people around him who had known him all these years find it difficult to identify with him in his new state. They still referred to him as the “blind man”. This is a problem everyone of us has to deal with when we discover our purpose and authentic self.
When this discovery is made, you will wish for profound recognition of what you have become – your unique gifts, abilities or endowments. You will wish to be known and introduced as the person now capable of significant impact because you have uncovered truths about yourself.

The first thing that often hits you hard is the resistance to your discovery. The joy associated with your find is attacked when you realise that virtually no one thinks very much of your discovery. They prefer your old state, but you have now embarked on a sacred journey. A crucial course set for the fulfillment of your destiny.
You will need to understand the role of solitude in not only discovering your purpose, but in helping you fan the flames. Spend time on the activities that enhance the abilities for your purpose. Carl Jung once said, “No matter how isolated and lonely you are, if you do your work well and conscientiously, unknown allies will seek you out.”
Use your new found strengths well by making contributions that align with your abilities. The best way to introduce yourself is through the results and value you add. Let each contribution you make speak of your new identity through a significant impact.
Your purpose will unfold over a lifetime, so acknowledge and celebrate every contribution you make. You will meet with more resistance, but you will also have moments of triumphs and alignment with discoveries and people of like mind that will reinforce your path and fuel your conviction.
Never forget that God will not let His purpose for your life fail. If you trust Him to take you on the journey of your authentic self, you will not only find fulfillment, but you also live your best life.
The day will come when people will acknowledge and recognise your new self. But before then, it is your responsibility to stay awake to what your have discovered. Accept to go on the journey that your identity leads. Fan the flames inside and let the essence you have burn to spread your inner fragrance.
