DARE TO WALK ALONE

July 12, 2025

Welcome to Episode One Hundred and Ninety-One.

We bring you everyday wisdom to help improve your life in many ways.

Our discussion is focused on choosing destiny, even when it seems odd to everyone else. The title is, DARE TO WALK ALONE.

Moana was destined to be leader of her people. Her claim to be the next chief was not disputed. Her Island of Motunui was a paradise to live in, but her heart steered a different path to achieve her place. She was drawn to the water, chosen to make a difference by saving the entire people of the sea from a curse that has lasted a thousand years. This was against the dictates of her society. She eventually became a Way-finder, a chief voyager with the rare ability to read the stars to navigate the ocean from one place to the other.

Societal expectations are often based on acceptable careers, conventional attitudes, popular and familiar paths. What if like Moana, your heart sings a different song and your soul hears a different rhythm from the beat that the crowd already knows and dances to?

Milton Wright was a bishop with the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. The bishop and his wife had a great love for learning and this impacted on their children’s intellectual pursuits. Though a well read intellectual, the bishop is quoted to never believe that humans could develop a fly machine, a dream his two sons worked on in his home town, Dayton, Ohio. The Wright Brothers had the temerity to walk alone to fly in the air when everyone was still scrambling on how to own automobiles.

Before we continue, remember to like, follow, and share with your friends. Let’s go on with our discussion.

This walk is not in rebellion. It is about a radical honesty that takes a look at your potential and passions, and recognises that you won’t fit into the acceptable standards and available blueprints. But it is not as easy as it seems. It would take an unpopular attitude that aligns with the truth inside you. This attitude is accompanied by courage and audacity to seize your own destiny.

You arrive at this conclusion when you realise that your destiny is not what is pre-written by society and family expectations, but what is forged by the choices you make, especially the difficult and lonely ones. This is how you define your own success, make decisions for the long term and take the walk alone in solitude.

This journey is termed the path less travelled. It is what makes you a trailblazer. People will criticise and misunderstand you. You might stumble. Of course, you may get lost midway, and begin to doubt, but remember the Wright Brothers had a father who didn’t believe in what they were working on, despite being a great influence on them intellectually.

Dare to walk alone. Your unique contribution to the world requires the unique path you tread. It demands the courage of a special attitude that drives you and the audacity to claim the destiny that calls out to you. Regardless of the whispers, stares or well-meaning advice that tries to steer or stop you, dare to walk the path that only you can see.
