I HAVE NO MAN

July 5, 2025

Welcome to Episode One Hundred and Eighty-Five.

We bring you everyday wisdom to help improve your life in many ways.

Our discussion is focused on cultivating relationships to help you handle overwhelming pressure in your life during down and dark times. The title is, I HAVE NO MAN.

The bible speaks of a man who had suffered an infirmity for thirty-eighty years and had lived beside the pool of Bethesda all that time, yet he told Jesus that he had no man to help him. I have asked myself several questions whenever I read this portion of scripture, “If this paralyzed man truly had nobody, how did he manage to live for this long through the different harsh seasons of the year, lying on his mat outside by the pool?” ” How did he get his food to feed himself and many other things?”

As I asked myself these questions, I realised that the impotent man had help that he didn’t want to acknowledge, because his greatest need was yet unsolved by all the other things that people helped him with.

The predicament faced by the paralyzed man was such that he would require help outside of himself to meet his every need. Was he never loved by family or friends? Did he not have a person who loved him enough to put some effort into seeing that he got well? Was everyone too busy to devote time to help him?

The most amazing part of the story was that, though he had focused his life on his limited knowledge of how he could be healed, Jesus came on the scene to help out with the healing he desperately sought.

What if when Jesus approached him, he snubbed Jesus and stayed on his own? He would have continued living with the paralysis. Our attitude to others, whether or not we are familiar with them will determine if we will keep them as friends, foes or drive them away.

Relationships hold the power of multiplicity. Different strengths reside in different people and when you are friends with such people, you are able to gain access to what they can do with their strength. And adding their strengths to your own multiples the potential of your success.

Relationships are viable sources of information. In fact, Adonijah referred to a young man as the messenger of good news. The man with infirmity had no man to give him the information about Jesus, so Jesus had to be the one to find him. The difference between this impotent man and the woman with the issue of blood was knowing people who could pass on vital information for opportunities. The woman with the issue of blood was told about Jesus by someone else and was also told that Jesus was passing by. That was the knowledge she needed to make her move.

Another role people who know you can play is to speak good of you. Someone can put in a good word for you in your absence. Even with limited knowledge, the farm supervisor’s words to Boaz about Ruth laid the foundation for his positive response to her.

The best part of having people is that you will have to cultivate the relationships. If you can’t cultivate it, let your character be resounding enough to speak for you, so that even when people are not necessarily your friends, they can speak well of you by what others say about you.

A gentle yet powerful reminder that relationships aren’t just nice to have—they’re lifelines in seasons of need. Beautifully put.
